Something so rare as music created for an interactive art exhibition is now released on cd for the first time.
These recordings are from “The Alchemy of Glass” - ambient clang and interactive sound and music created by multimedia artist, Gregers Kirkegaard, for the mixed media installation“The Sense Labyrinth” at Holmegaard’s Glassworks in spring 2006.

Gregers Kirkegaard invited the string ensemble Purple Strings-- Hélianne Blais (Efterklang, Simon Toldam etc.) and Andreas Bennetzen (Poeten og Lillebror, Salem, HalfMachine etc.) to join in the project, and after an inspiring concert together during summer 2006, they began to record “Impressions”, “To the South” and “Caught in the crossfire”.
These 3 “first-take” works are based on intuition and improvisation – the music communicates and reacts completely spontaneously, and it was quickly evident that the first recordings were so fine that there was no need to re-record or edit.

Some notes on the other compositions and thelr creation:

“Singing Glass Pentatone in Bb” is an interactive ambient composition based on the tones Bb-D-Eb-f-g played on glass. Used in the “Sense Labyrinth” installation. “Gong” builds on the same principles but is randomized electronic sound. “The Water” is a sound collage based on a Haiku poem written together with Michael Fock, mixed with strings, and a vocal by Malene Hartmann Rasmussen.
