Ensemble Clash
What happens when an electronic musician and composer whose main instrument is a sampler meets a classical musician and composer whose main instrument is a double bass, and they both embark on experimenting with composition and improvisation?
The result is Ensemble Clash with the electronic wonder, Bjørn Svin, and solo double bassists, Andreas Bennetzen. They have played together since 2003, when they performed at Andreas’ soloist debut concert at the music conservatory in Odense. In 2005, they were named as New Scene Ensemble under SNYK (www.snyk.dk), which is the leading organization for contemporary music. In 2007, they became members of SNYK’s representative board, which is clearly a mark of approval of their achievements as an original and pioneering ensemble that successfully combines the best from the electronic and classical scenes. The duo also received support from the Art Council in 2007, and is known for its performances of improvised works and electronic and classical compositions.
The music is composed both by themselves and for them by composers from Denmark and abroad, and ranges from the ambient and intense to the danceable and festive, with a funky sound. For 2008, Ensemble Clash has presented a whole new and very exciting programme with its own unique combination of classical and electronic music.
The programme for this season includes the following works:
Bjørn Svin and Andreas Bennetzen: “Fire is Rising”
Bjørn Svin and Andreas Bennetzen: “Shock the Hop Up!”
John Alexander: “Free Play” for solo double bass
Bjørn Svin: “Syv Cirkler (I En Matrix)”, remix of an Else Marie Pade work
Andreas Bennetzen: “Release” for solo bass
Kuno Kjærbye: “The White Stag” for solo bass
Kuno Kjærbye: “Bedwyr” for solo double bass, from “The Cauldron”
